Chickagami Lodge 180 of Port Huron, Michigan, was founded in 1941 and serves the Blue Water Council. During the first year of the lodge it had all of the new ordeal candidates carve their own arrows, which they would keep until the end of the Ordeal. If the candidates talked they would get a notch. This showed the significance of the Ordeal and how it worked. One of the original officers was past Michigan Supreme Court Justice John B. Swainson who served as the Lodge’s Secretary. In 1971, John returned to the Lodge as a guest and presented the Lodge with the District Dance Trophy. Lodge 180’s Dance team was rated as one of the best in the nation. The Lodge totem i s the Standing Brave. He is an Indian with an arrow pulled back shooting north to the heavens. Chickagami holds their events at Silver Trails Scout Reservation in Jeddo, Michigan. The camp itself is represented on the lodge flap as well with the Number Nine Tree. It is a tree in the shape of a number nine, and grew in camp until it had to be cut down. Now the tree has been at camp for close to fifty years and is on display at the camp. -- From the History of Section C-2A compiled in 2002.
